Background: Occasionally the UCI Library adds small books (12 cm. or less) to its collection. These books will have been approved by the AUL for Collections either at the time of ordering or at the time of receipt. Therefore, catalogers can assume that any small book that is routed to them for cataloging needs no further review.

Procedures: Catalog for the protected collection:

  • Bib location = MAIN
  • Item location = MAINX
  • Write LLX on the t.p. above the call number
  • Make sure the book has a MAINX flag before sending to Preservation.
