The UCI Libraries no longer assign LC call numbers in the range Z5000 through Z8900 (i.e. the range reserved for subject and personal bibliographies). Instead class these bibliographies in the classification appropriate for the topic, under the general number (classes A-V, Z1-1199, ZA). In addition, although UCI continues to use the range Z1200 through Z4999 (i.e. national bibliographies) for general bibliographies of a country, we do not class bibliographies on literature and history in the areas of national bibliographies. Class these two categories in their respective classes in P and D. Note that we continue to assign call numbers as appropriate in the range Z1 through Z1199, as well as ZA. Note also the following specific decisions:

  • Incomplete sets and classed-together monographic series already cataloged in Z1200-8999 will continue to have volumes or titles added with the original call number.
  • New editions will not be assigned Z1200-8999 even if earlier edition(s) have been classed in that range. Earlier edition(s) published within 3 years of the later edition will be reassigned the new non-Z call number.
  • Unanalyzed serial titles already cataloged in Z1200-8999 will not be reassigned. New serial titles will receive A-V numbers
